Sale Signaling: LE, Discontinued Items, and More at Big Lots

Made a trip to my local Big Lots to hunt for some Philosophy items. After so many people posted about Philosophy cosmetics popping up at various locations, I figured I'd try to track some down. Unfortunately, I was late to this party. The display was in a random place near the registers and totally picked over. But that's okay, since I spotted a ton of other goodies in the regular cosmetics aisle. :3c

Here are the items I purchased.

~ Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Forest
~ Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow Quad in Makeover Mocha and Strut It Suede
~ Loreal HIP Blendable Blushing Creme in Blushing and Tickled

The Loreal cream blushes are discontinued, but I've been wanting to try them out ever since I came across a post with the entire collection swatched. To me, the collection leaned more towards natural/darker shades which is a little unusual for HIP since it's other products are very colorful and loud.

All the Maybelline products are from the 2011 Fall Fashion Week Limited Edition Collection. I have never seen limited edition stuff at Big Lots before or being close-out items other than at drug stores. I was super giddy when I spotted these. I should have bought the other two quads, but I was in a rush. I went back a few days later and all the LE items were gone. :<c But no fear! I have plans to visit other Big Lots in my area. Hee!

There were a ton of other neat finds, but none of them tickled me enough to want to have them. I think it has to do with the items I purchased being hard to find items/LE. It's like a sickness, I want to have them ALL and if they are rare, I MUST have them. lol. :> I'm sure other beauty junkies can relate.

Here's a list of things I remember spotting:
- Maybelline Dream Mousse blushes (various colors)
- Maybelline Dream Mousse bronzers (various colors)
- Maybelline Eye Studio Color Gleam Cream Eyeshadow trios (various colors)
- Various Maybelline mascaras
- Loreal HIP lip glosses (forgot the actual name/various colors)
- Revlon Colorburst Lipsticks (various colors)

If you guys go on the hunt for any of these items, good luck to you! :3c

Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Shampoo & Conditioner

I've been testing out a new shampoo & conditioner from Garnier Fructis. This opportunity popped up through a BzzAgent campaign. When I first got the invite, I was a little skeptical about this being new since the packaging and all the claims seemed unchanged, but nonetheless it was exciting since I love trying out new products.

Like usual, the BzzKit came in a small box that was sealed by the trademark BzzAgent bee tape. Here's what was included.

~ Official BzzGuide
~ 1 Triple Nutrition Shampoo for Dry, Damaged Hair
~ 1 Triple Nutrition Conditioner for Dry, Damaged Hair

The two bottles were neatly packaged inside a ziplock bag, which I thought was very thoughtful of the Bzz team.

And here's a few facts from the BzzGuide:

~ Works best on dry or damaged hair
~ Nourish hair to the core so it shines from within
~ Forumlated with Fortified Fruit Science - three weightless nutritive fruit oils (olive, avocado, and shea)
~ Packed with ultra-rich and nourishing conditioners that rinse clean - we dare you to find something that treats your dry damaged hair better

Okay, so my hair falls into the dry and damaged category no doubt about it. I used to dye my hair all the time. At one point, I dyed it every other week. Bad I know. Sue me. So after all that chemical mayhem I put my hair through, it's quite unfriendly to me now, so I'm always a sucker for new products that promise to help me make peace with it. I've been using this on and off for the past few weeks.

Why on and off? Well, my scalp has been really, really dry lately which is making me flake too. This shampoo/conditioner combo definitely does not help with that, but it's not like it promised to. When I did use this though, I had mixed feeling about the results. On one hand, it moisturized my hair, smelled fabulous, and made my hair shiny. All Garnier Fructis products smell delicious and this was no exception. On the other, I couldn't keep up my routine of washing my hair every other day. I found my hair to get oilier faster and when my hair gets oily out of my schedule it can get bothersome. I think this has to do with what's in both products and you can tell from the texture. To me it seems the shampoo and conditioner have a lower viscosity than the average shampoo/conditioner and I'm attributing it to the natural fruity oils. This isn't bad by any means, it's just bad for me right now with the stage my hair is at. This would be great for really, REALLY super dry hair. On a side note, I will definitely try this out again when the winter weather arrives to wreck havoc on my hair.

If you'd like to try this out here's a coupon for you. :3c

I'm proud to be a BzzAgent. Not familiar with BzzAgent? BzzAgent is a social marketing company that distributes products to it's members, let's them try it out, and asks them to Bzz about it. Bzz can be anything from face-to-face conversations to discussion through online social media. One of my favorite things about the company (besides trying out goodies) is that they want members to keep their opinions as honest as possible, so negative opinions or experiences are still welcomed. You aren't always going to love new products and it's great that they understand that. Oh yeah, did I mention it's also free to join? Check it out here. To be eligible for campaigns, you must fill out surveys in order to determine if you fit into the demographic, and if you do, they'll email you an invite to the campaigns you fit into.

Target Beauty Bag Spring 2012

My Target Beauty Bag came in the mail a couple days ago. I was super giddy since it feels like Christmas whenever I get packages in the mail. I just cannot wait to tear the boxes open. :3c Childish I know, but I can't help it! It was pretty surprising too since the Target Beauty Bags don't have the greatest track record for arriving on time, especially for someone like me on the West Coast.  Anyhoo, let's see the goodies that were included.

The bag is the same as shown in the promo image. The bright orange and pink give off a more Summery feel than a Spring-ish one, but I'm loving it. If you put it in your purse, you surely won't have a hard time finding it in the dark. The samples included are a tad uneventful in my opinion, but that's because they've included Nivea lotion and Pantene shampoo samples before. I know they're different from the previous ones, but I wish the samples leaned a little more on the new cosmetics that have landed in stores.

Here's a list of everything included in the bag (even the coupons):
  • Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes
  • Pantene Color Preserve Volume Shampoo
  • Nivea Extended Moisture Daily Lotion
  • Neutrogena Visibly Bright Daily Facial Cleanser
  • Loreal Paris Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer
  • Coupon Booklet
    • $2 off purchase of two CoverGirl cosmetic items
    • $1 off Jergens skin care item (excludes trial/travel size)
    • $1 off Loreal face cosmetic item (foundation or primer)
    • $1 off Maybelline NY Volum' Express Falsies mascar
    • $1 off Neutrogena facial skin care item (excludes trial/travel size)
    • $3 off Nexxus Frizz Defy hair care item (excludes trial/travel size)
    • $1 off Nivea body skin care item (excludes trial/travel size)
    • $2 off Olay facial skin care item (Moisturizer, Treatment, or Cleanser)
    • $1 off with puruchaase of two hair care items (Head & Shoulders, Herbal Essences, Pantene, Aussie; Excludes trial/travel size)
    • $2 off Pixie designer cosmetics item
    • $2 off Revlon cosmetics item
    • $1 off Sally Hansen Magnetic nail polish
    • $1 off Simple facial skin care item (Excludes trial/travel size)
The coupons caught my attention especially the Revlon one. Hello to more Lip Butters for me. The Sally Hansen one sparked my interest since I haven't come across a line of magnetic polishes from them. I hope there will be sales I can combine these coupons with in the coming month because it'll make the purchase that much sweeter. :3c The downside is that all the coupons expire on 5.31.12, so there is only one month to find the time to use them.

Here's a close up of the samples which are all sample sized (had to say it lol).

I signed up for the Target Beauty Bag at the beginning of April through the Target Style Facebook page. Not sure if you can still sign up, but doesn't meant you can't try. Also, I think the deal on Target.com might still be active (buy three qualifying beauty items, get a beauty bag which may or may not be the same one).

Yay for freebies! Did you receive your Target Beauty Bag yet?

Venus & Olay Razor

Yes, that's right. Another post about hair removal. What can I say? I like being silky smooth and rocking shorts. Maybe it's also because I get self-conscious when the prickly starts erupting. Even though I know random people won't run up to touch my legs, I feel like they just know I've been lazy. lol.

From the Love VoxBox, I got to test out the new razor by Gillette. It's the love child of Venus' close shave and Olay's ability to moisturize skin. At first glance, I thought the entire razor was the disposable kind, but on closer inspection, I realized it was a starter kit and that the actual razor was the disposable part. The bulky packaging should have immediately given that away.

Here's what's housed inside:
~ 1 Razor handle (soft-grip with the same color scheme as the razor cartridge)
~ 1 Razor cartridge (includes 5 blades and 2 Olay moisturizing bars)
~ 1 Shower hook

The cartridge packaging seemed rather large to me compared to previous cartridges I've tried. Once I opened the cartridge packaging, I was met with a scent that I can only describe as warm and it reminded me of Olay lotions. It was fairly strong at first, but it diminishes as you use it. I really enjoyed the scent, but people sensitive to fragrance may not agree.

Here's a close up. It definitely doesn't look like your mother's razor.

I've used this about 2-3 times already and the bars are still going strong, which was one of the things I was wary of. Other razors sporting a similar moisturizing bar/strip don't last very long, at least not for me. The 5 blades did their job and the result was a super close shave as expected. Haven't experienced any build up on the blades either which is another yay. Not once while using this in the shower did the razor slip out of my hand. I hate it when I drop the razor while in mid shave and lose my place. lol. Did I mention that this product advertises no other shave cream needed? I was extremely skeptical about this. I was ready to forgo testing this aspect out due to previous negative experiences, but once I added some water, I changed my mind. You don't need shaving cream at all! It glided across my skin without any skipping and it didn't leave my skin feeling dry and tight. It blew my mind because all I could say was wow wow WOW. After drying off, my legs were so smooth and moisturized as if I had put on lotion. I've gotten the same result every time I've used it which only made me love the product more. The only downside for me was the cost of refill cartridges. The "starter kit" that I received retails for about $8.99, but may vary depending on store and a pack of 3 replacement cartridges is between $14.99-19.49. To me that seems a bit pricey, but I've always thought all the cartridge refill type things were pretty expensive.

Would I repurchase? Yeah, I think I might be making this my staple razor since the cartridge seems to have good period of use and I can cut the cost of shaving cream. I like to cut costs where I can, cause hey, if you can save money somewhere why not, right? I can put the savings to good use on other beauty items. :3c

You can find these at your local drugstores and other various retailers. Check out their site to find out more.

Kiss Nail Dress

I finally got around to trying out the Kiss Nail Dress nail polish strips that were included in my Love VoxBox. It was definitely one of the more interesting products included, but that's just because I really enjoy trying out new beauty products. I received KDS10, otherwise known as Sexy, which is a leopard print pattern. Not exactly my cup of tea, but it was way too interesting to be bothered.

The box looks small, but there was actually a plastic filler behind an insert and the nail strips. The contents were organized and neat. When I opened the flap, I could smell a strong scent. It reminded me of actual nail polish, but more confined. Regular nail polish has a smell that can fill up a whole room, the scent was more around the packaging of the box and the strips themselves. It wasn't a turn off for me since unusual smells are kinda cool sometimes, weird I know. Some might find it bothersome though.

Here's what was included:
~ Insert
~ 28 nail polish strips
~ Double sided file
The insert shows all 18 designs that are available at the moment. KDS04, KDS09, and KDS17 caught my eye. I might try them out if I have a special event and I'm short on time. There's also a picture-by-picture instruction panel. This was definitely helpful while I was applying them on myself.
On the back side of the insert, there's a suggestion of how to customize the nail stickers along with imPRESS nails to get a unique nail look. Pretty interesting, but I don't trust myself to make pretty combinations. lol.

The application concept was easy to understand, but actually applying them was a little more tough than I thought. I'm a bit clumsy, so that may be why I had some troubles. Sizing your nails is fairly easy since there are 14 different shapes. Applying them to the nail was a tad troublesome (this is where clumsiness is a huge factor) because I couldn't center the sticker against my cuticle. It took some time before I got one hand fully stickered up. It was easy to remove and try again; the stickiness of the sticker didn't decrease the more times I put and pulled it off. Now the hardest part was filing the excess off. The instructions say to fold the excess and file, but when you fold it, it may create folds or ruffles on the sticker that's on your nail. When you file off in that manner, the ruffles might just stay which was what happened to me on many nails. Also, the edge that was filed was a bit jagged to the touch. I just tried to file until I got to the point where it was acceptably smooth. Don't be too rough, it might lift the strip.

This is about 10 minutes or so after applying the nail strips to my nails:
Not a great job, I know. This was my first time trying out nail strips and I was a total noob. I do like how they look though. However, it seemed like a bit much since I just hung out with friends and what not. These look like they are meant for special occasions since they're so flashy.

How long did they last? About 4-5 days before I peeled them off. These strips don't exactly "chip" more like little pieces along the edge get nicked off. The strip itself is pretty tough, so if you pull at the edge you pull the whole thing. Since pieces get nicked off, the strip might lift from your nail. I didn't expect these to last the 10 days it says on the packaging, so I wasn't disappointed at all. I saw it wearing down around the second day. During the time I wore them, I mostly did day-to-day activities like wash dishes, clean up, drive, etc.

Would I repurchase? Definitely! If I have a special occasion I want to dress my nails up for or I'm feeling particularly girly, these would be the first to come to mind since they are cheap or cheaper than other brands. Retail is $6.99, so definitely not too bad if you're in need of quick and unique nails.

For more information check out their website here. There's a video on how to apply them and FAQ to answer any questions you might have.

Philips SatinPerfect Epilator

Back in February I received the Philips SatinPerfect Epilator HP6576/50 through BzzAgent to try out. Epilators were something I had never heard of until I came across a YouTube video. Usually, I'm a razor kind of girl. Sometimes it's time-consuming and troublesome, but it's easy to become so used to doing that you can kinda go on auto-pilot. When I received the invite for this campaign that had a promise of 4 weeks of smoothness, you can bet I jumped on it fast. Epilators are electronic devices that have discs that spin and pull your hairs out from the roots. I kind of think of it like a tweezer on steroids that leaves no time in between pulling hairs.

Here are some pictures of the epilator packaging and all the attachments/extras it came with:

Contents included:
  • Epilator Base
  • Epilator discs (attached to base in the picture above)
  • Shave, trim, and style attachment
  • Trimming comb (attacked to shave, trim, an style attachment)
  • Optimal performance cap
  • Active hairlifter with active massage attachment
  •  Cleaning brush
  • Adapter
  • Illuminating tweezers with mirror

The night I first tried this out, I did not shower prior to using it like it suggests and even though I was prepared of unfamiliar feelings including pain, I was surprised at how very, very strange it felt. I don't want to say it was super painful or anything, but it had a slight sting to it. I can understand how plucking one hair at a time is easy since there's a little break in between pulling out the hairs, but this just keeps going, plucking out your hairs simultaneously as you drag it across your skin. After finishing my legs, I decided to shower and then continue on my arms and armpits. My arms had the same sting-ish feeling, but it was much easier since I knew what to expect. However, when I tried it on my armpits, oh my, it was pretty bad. I had to stop a few times before finishing and some pores were bleeding (I applied rubbing alcohol to clean them). In the instructions, it instructs you to use the shave, trim and style attachment, but I went ahead and used the epilator discs with the optimal performance cap. I wanted to be baby smooth there too you know? After a few more times of using this product, I had become used to the sensation no matter where I used it. The first experience was probably a little negative since I had never used such a device before nor had I ever waxed. One thing for sure, I wouldn't use the epilating discs on my bikini line. That's just a whole other world of pain I never want to experience.

Would I suggest this to others? Yeah, only if you are willing to put up with unfamiliar/slightly painful sensations. It's not hard to get used to. I'm not trying to scare people away from this product because I do love it, but I know not everyone is going to be willing to put up with getting used to it or maybe are too sensitive for such a method of hair removal.

How long does the smoothness last? For me, I got about 2 and half weeks or so before the stubbly came back. Obviously, it'll vary between women so don't expect the exact same results.

If you're interested in trying it out, use "BUZZEP2O" to get $20 off if you order it through Amazon. (That's a letter O, not a zero)

Influenster Love VoxBox

A few days ago, I received the Influenster Love VoxBox in the mail. I'm so excited since this is my first VoxBox since signing up with Influenster (not to mention they hinted chocolate would be involved). For those unfamiliar with Influenster, I'll include a little spiel about it at the end of the post.

Here are the contents of the VoxBox:
  • Gillette Venus & Olay Razor ~ It has 5 blades (wow) and Olay Moisture Bars. "No need for separate shave cream." Sounds really interesting, but we'll just have to wait and see.
  • Kiss Nail Dress - Fashion That Sticks ~ Received 56708-KDS10, which is a leopard print design. Neat thing is that it can be used for fingernails AND toenails. :3c
  • Stash Tea Herbal Tea Sampler ~ I'm not a big tea drinker, but these flavors sound too interesting to pass up. Flavors included: Acai Berry, Blueberry Superfruit, Chamomile, Cinnamon Apple Chamomile, Lemon Ginger, Licorice Spice, Mango Passionfruit, Peppermint, and Wild Raspberry Hibiscus.
  • Ghirardelli Gourmet Milk Creamy Devotion Bar ~ Chocolate, what else can I say? I love chocolate and I'm really excited to see how smooth it will be. I'm sure this will be the first thing I tear through.
  • Truvia Natural Sweetener ~ This was the product I was least excited about, but when I opened up the packaging it smelled like marshmallows. Kinda like the ones you get in Lucky Charms or hot chocolate packets.

This was the card that was included in the box and gives some information about each product.

Influenster is a community of people who share their lifestyles through social media and by doing so, obtain badges in order to qualify for complimentary products (which come in a VoxBox) or deals from various brands.
